The Society of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians was a brain child in 2010 by an enthusiastic group of Lab animal vet techs who were looking for a way to become recognized as professionals in the Laboratory Animal Field.

The original goal of SLAVT was to accumulate a wealth of professionals in the field that would move forward this organization to be recognized by NAVTA as a technician specialty.

After many years of persistent organizing and applications not being approved, the Society was successful in getting NAVTA to recognize our field as one of the professional specialties in 2016.  The group that was formed was the The Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses.

With out the hard work of the members of the society, this would have never happened.  Today this group promotes all members of the lab animal community, sharing ideas and providing great CEUs at the National AALAS Convention.
